Don't act like you're not impressed.
It is quite late now.
I still have a bunch to do
I just want to sleep

"Wow look at that Pokemon!"
School laptops. This has been the topic of discussion among DCHS administrators for quite some time.
I remember when I was a freshman and was first handed my laptop I cared for that thing like a mother cares for a newborn. It never left my side and it was essentially my life for about 3 years. Now that I'm a senior I couldn't care less about this thing. Sure it is helpful to get on facebook and stuff on but if I would still be able to access that without this laptop.
They issued everyone laptops and claimed they would improve student learning and all other things. That is pretty much the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Handing a 14 year old a laptop and telling them not to get on games or other distractions is like giving a mouse to George and expecting him not to kill it.
I've used the laptop for 4 years now and I can say having this laptop has probably been the biggest block on my learning ever. I would come home everynight and kill countless hours doing pointless tasks and not doing my homework. I made it my task to become a master at fooling teachers and parents I was doing what I was actually supposed to be.
I think the laptops should only be given to Honor's students. This way the school will know they are giving laptops to students who care some what about their grades and maybe they won't procrastinate as much. I think the way the laptop program is now is a complete waste of time and money.
I work in the help desk so I have personally seen and heard about all the stupid crap kids have done to their laptops. At age 14 some students simply don't have the maturity to handle a machine of that magnitude.

You're really going to make me walk all the way around?
I would estimate that out of the seniors we have about 1/4 or 1/3 are taking college classes at OCTC. This is probably about 75-100 students atleast. The school makes the students who take college classes park at special designated area's far away from the office, where we are all supposed to go into the enter the school. Now, walking all the way around the school upon returning from your college class on a regular day is enough of a hassle but consider when it is windy and pouring down rain, or there are two inches of snow on the ground and the walk way hasn't been shoveled off. You still have to walk to the office. Now what happens when you get to the office that is so important? Nothing, you walk in and walk right on through to the door into the school, no one stops and asks what you're doing, nothing. Why can't you just walk in the door closest to your parking spot. If you're a senior taking college classes you're obviously decently responsible, you should be able to enter the school where you please, hell you're a senior, you practically deserve it.
Personally a few weeks ago I walked up to the door by the car pickup lines with Madison Mills. It was raining, and we both had alot of books in our hands. We knocked on the door and a teacher who will remain nameless opened it and told us we couldn't come in here we had to walk around to the office. We ended up walking around getting our books and persons quite soaked and cold.
That should have never happened, we should have been allowed to enter the building there. Daviess County High School should have solved this problem a long time ago. We could implement some form of ID scanner and if you have college classes you scan your ID and are able to get into the school. Some administrators might claim this would be to expensive. But if we have money to spend purchasing new banners for the school parking lot and gym as well as new paint jobs, we should have room in the budget to find a solution to this continual problem.

Really?! I'm a senior chill out.
I don't understand, why some teachers take the rules so personally and enforce them as if they are the most important thing in the world.
Some things must be enforced, such as theft, fights, or bullying. But having to stop in the middle of a crowded hallway to yank out your ID from your pocket to appease a teacher even though you can clearly see the lanyard hanging from the pocket. Why is this such a big deal? Why do teachers seem to have such a personal stake in this pointless practice? Why are guys questioned about holes in jeans that are slightly above the knee? I've seen guys were shorts that expose more upper leg than jeans like these. Going into the teachers lounge with a teachers ID to purchase them a coke should not be a offense warranting a loud public scolding, but yet I've experienced this.
My personal opinion and I know I'm not the only person who shares the same views. Teachers need to find something better to do, like actually teaching perhaps. Most of the people at DC who scold people for things like ID's. They do nothing throughout the day. If they had something to do to preoccupy their time this would probably help. They would also come into touch with reality and see how not of a big deal things like having a ID around a neck really is. They could be exerting all that time and energy else where in actually making a difference.
Teachers just need to relax. It's high school.

Can I turn that in tomorrow?
A class about every 9 weeks. Two 9 weeks a semester. Two semesters a year. Four years in high school.
That's a lot of classes with a lot of teachers. I've had some that our so strict you dare to even raise your hand. And other classes where it's so relaxed kids are out of control, connecting laptop slings and lowering a apple to the classroom below us...
I'd like to think I've had a good combination of both throughout high school. I won't mention the names of the bad teachers, but most people already know who they are. There are some of the teachers though, who let the students have a lot of fun but also teach the material. Thinking back most of these have been English and History teachers. All of my English teachers, all the way from freshman year with Ms. Clark to Senior year with Angie, have been awesome. Even know if I need something or want to stop by they will all warmly welcome me. Unlike other teachers that give me harsh reproachful glances if I pass them in a hallway.
I'm really going to miss some of the teachers I've had in high school. Ms Clark, Mr. Dennis. Ms. Gunter, Mr. Howard, and ofcourse the P.E. "teachers"

Come early, paint up, be loud, stay late.
About to graduate, I look back and think of all the things I wish I had done, or done more of.
I wish I had gone to more games and been more spirited. Most students throughout high school don't understand why there are so many seniors that paint up for games and show so much enthusiasm. It seems stupid and you feel like you're more mature and you're above that. But as a senior I see now how wrong people are who think like that. You only go through high school once, why not go a little crazy? Go to a game, take your shirt off paint your chest, and yell. Some of the best memories I have of high school are going to soccer and basketball games shirtless covered in red and white paint and yelling till I was hoarse.
One of if not my favorite memory of high school, was at a DC home soccer game, we had a huge fan section, and when it time to listen to the national anthem the sound system wouldn't work. There was long awkward pause and so I started singing the national anthem to myself and those around me. Others joined in and soon we had the entire student fan section and some parents singing along to our nation's song. The next morning at school the fan section received acknowledgment and praise for singing. I'll never forget this as long as I live, and it wouldn't have happened if I had chose to stay home that night.
As I look back I wonder how many other memories like that I missed out on because I chose to stay home one night...

10 days left...
Wow, I can't believe I have 10 days left of high school. It seems so surreal. I don't even know what to think. Part of me is really happy to finally be leaving all the silly rules and absurd people, but at the same time part of me wants to stay here forever, with my close friends.
As I lay here it's hard not to think back at all the stuff I've experienced here at DCHS. I'm not even going to attempt at listing all the things that stands out to me, at least not with this blog post. If you want a real quick, funny, and sad summary you should find James Shockley's video of his awards night song. It contains a lot of funny memories that will be hard to forget.
With 10 days left of senior year, I'm still not sure what to feel. I know I should be happy to get out of here, and some times I am. But most of the time I think of leaving Daviess County and a knot in my stomach forms. Leaving DC is something we all can't wait to experience until it is time to actually leave.

Soo
Soo, its been quite a while since I have seen this screen, new episodes have come and gone and I have failed to give my opinion on them. The Office has seem some rather drastic changes but nothing bad. Saber a printer company has bought out Dunder Mifflin and with that comes a few new changes. I'm not going to talk about them because that would spoil some fun of actually watching the episode. One thing I really enjoyed was the parody of Party in the USA. Andy and the receptionist (I suddenly can't remember her name) sing a pretty funny parody that will bring in a few chuckles. If you haven't seen these new episodes I highly recommend them, you should head to hulu.com and catch up. Thats all for now.

No new episode again.
Soo once again this week there was no new episode. So I didn't even bother flipping the TV on to watch it. I am quite upset about this. With no new episode I am hoping the writers of The Office are gearing up for a really good new episode. Anyway I am sorry this is rather short, but I have a bad case of the mondays mixed with senioritis. Good day

1-21-10
Soo, if anyone watched The Office this Thursday it was a new episode. But then again, was it really a "new" episode. Thursday episode consisted mainly of clips from past episodes. Although the flashbacks were pretty funny it seems as if the writers are running out of ideas for new episodes. These kinds of episodes don't really progress anything, they just kinda stall the series. Hopefully so that it gives the writers time to think. But they need to think fast, because if they start airing episodes that consist of mainly past episodes I predict they will lose a lot of their fan base. But oh well, all in all Thursday's Office was still pretty funny, the past clips they showed were some of their best moments.

No new Office
Alright so since there was no new episode of The Office this Thursday I don't really have much to comment on. I was a little disappointed when I found out but the wound has mended and I am waiting ever so patiently for this Thursday to see if they deliver a new episode. You might be thinking that I could just check their website and see but that is where you are incorrect for two reasons. First of all I like the thrill and suspense of uncertainty but second and mainly I am just to lazy to get of Facebook and hunt for it. Soo thats my blog, pretty uneventful but anyway there it is.
